So lately I have been thinking of starting an RPG that is kind of a mish mash between Manoyama Academy and Criminal Business in terms of gameplay, but set during a large war in the 50's (in a world different from ours). An RPG where one can be a soldier for any army: communist or anti-communist, a citizen, or perhaps an insurgent. No ranks that allow the players to lead entire armies, but more like either working with orders, or ordering a small company of soldiers/citizens/insurgents to fight for the greater good. Essentially an army RP/RPG that acts like an FPS.
However, shooting commies/anti-commies with weird 50's guns won't be all for this RPG. There can be many roles, combat and non-combat, to play out in the military/insurgent militas, from translators, to codebreakers, to medics, and perhaps even spies. Or in the case of citizens that live in a harsh regime or environment, try to live a tale of survival.
What makes this idea similar to Manoyama Academy is that there will be skills for players to upgrade, such as skills with using a specific weapon, using a specific language, or even simply general skills like charisma. And what makes this idea similar to Criminal Business is the way the idea approaches characters and gunplay: application needed; gunplay is similar or the same to CB gunplay, yada yada ya.
I will not go too full into detail of this idea, or the plot, but basically two great communist powers were having a cold war with an uneasy alliance between a quasi-fascist absolute monarchy and a large democratic nation over a whole continent, and eventually the world, and this cold war blows over due to a string of incidents. Due to the lack of nukes, it was easier for this "cold war" to go hot. It's a clash of Communism vs Democratic Capitalism vs Fascism, socialist unions vs colonial empires, nationalism vs egalitarianism.
