I'm still contemplating how reading books will work, mainly debating between these two options:

Option 1: Books take the entirety of 1 turn to read.
Option 2: Upon obtaining a new book, a number will be rolled between 1 and 3, which determines how long it will take to read.

I am probably going to go with Option 2, and the number of turns the book takes to read will determine the amount of EXP it provides. Either way, I will be the one to determine whether you manage to find a new book on the subject specified in the library.

pls not option 2, turns are uncommon enough as it is, you should do option 1 to make up for the infrequent updating

Maybe have the book system work so that once you have a new book, a number will still be rolled from 1 to 3 but it determines how long the book gives information. The book would give out the same amount of exp each turn you spend reading it (because books usually don't provide all the knowledge at the end). After the book has been read then you have to take a chance at finding a new one. Maybe that would work better so that you aren't forced to read at most for 3 turns to actually get knowledge.

Like for example I luckily find my book and a 2 is rolled. So now I can spend 2 turns before said book is “used up” and I have to take a chance finding another. Each of those two turns gives me 100 exp so I get 200 exp if I spent those two turns. You could have each book give the same amount of exp per turn or you could make that random too.

Yeah I was thinking of having it give EXP on each turn you spend reading it, since you gradually gain knowledge.

hmmmm tough decision

I will read the book now and buy the robe another day (robe is optional if I can bribe people to stay shut, but it helps looking unknown and not having to drain money to keep secrets shut)
